In April 2246, Ensign Montgomery Scott was assigned to the USS Constitution. Following the installation of the new Warp-II engine, the Constitution was to take a shakedown cruise out to Pluto before heading out to Alpha Centauri. The plan was that the Constitution would arrive at the same time as the "sleeper ship".

- ↑ According to "Space Seed", sleeper ships were retired in the early 21st century. However, "11:59" states that some sleeper ships were operational as late as the 2210s. Therefore, it's not unreasonable to assume that Malcolm may have left Earth at about this time.
- ↑ The date given in Star Trek II Biographies was 2146. This has been adjusted to fit the modern Star Trek chronology.
