Malcolm was a 23rd century Human male, uncle of Montgomery Scott[1].

Malcolm left Earth aboard a "sleeper ship" bound for Alpha Centauri[2].

In April 2246[3], Ensign Montgomery Scott was assigned to the USS Constitution. Following the installation of the new Warp-II engine, the Constitution was to take a shakedown cruise out to Pluto before heading out to Alpha Centauri. The plan was that the Constitution would arrive at the same time as the "sleeper ship".

In a letter home to his parents, Scott remarked how funny it would be for his uncle to travel all that way, only to find his nephew already waiting for him on the dock[1].

  2. According to "Space Seed", sleeper ships were retired in the early 21st century. However, "11:59" states that some sleeper ships were operational as late as the 2210s. Therefore, it's not unreasonable to assume that Malcolm may have left Earth at about this time.
  3. The date given in Star Trek II Biographies was 2146. This has been adjusted to fit the modern Star Trek chronology.
